We awoke to a beautiful sunrise coming into Nawiliwili, Kauai!!  We had a full day of sightseeing ahead.  Kauai is known as the "Garden Island" and is the 4th largest of the 8 inhabited Hawaiian Islands.  Did you know that there are 331 uninhabited islands that form part of Hawaii??

First stop was Waimea and the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, elev. 3400 ft..

Breath-taking views as you can see from the photos.  Note there are vegetation on some of the cliffs and some barren and rocky.

Our last stop was the Spouting Horn blowhole.  It's linked to Hawaiian myth about a brother trying to signal his sisters to save him.  As the tide comes in you hear his moan and and then the spouthole blows as a shrill sound.

And as we set sail for Oahu, we were treated to a wonderful sunset over Kauai!

  1. Wow, the Waimea Canyon sure looks to be like the Grand Canyon! I didn't realize it was as big as the photos make it look! And oh my, that sunset!

  2. Sooo amazing! I’m at a loss for words (I know, rare occasion) over the beauty and similarity to the North Rim.
