Tabuaeran, also known as Fanning Island, is an atoll that is part of the Line Islands in the exact center of the Pacific Ocean and part of Kiribati.  It is believed that this is the last island Polynesians colonized before they discovered Hawaii.  It is also a fact that early on this atollhad mountains that were 1000 feet high, but were gradually eroded by wind, surf and storms.

Population is 1990 per the 2020 census, and the locals have NO electricity, NO indoor plumbing, and NO restaurants or bars!  

Unfortunately, Customs officials could not not secure transport for the 200-mile ocean trip from Christmas Island to Fanning Island, so we could not disembark on the island. The Captain did do a circumnavigation of the atoll so we did get some nice photos.

    That's disappointing I'm sure. Interesting about the inability for the customs officials not to be able to get to the island. I wonder how often that occurs.
